- Introducing another incredible sponsorship: Miss America
-
One of the first things our IBOs learn after joining the business is that we are here to support them. Some of that support comes from fellow peers, from our customer support staff, or from sales training that we offer. Another way they’re supported is through our national advertising campaigns, promotions, and event sponsorships. So, when we learned about a new sponsorship opportunity this past December, we knew we couldn’t pass it up.
I’m proud to share that for the next two years, ARTISTRY® skin care and cosmetics, beauty power brand of Amway Global, is the Official Skin Care and Cosmetics Provider of the Miss America Pageant. We’ve also created the Artistry Scholarship, sponsored by Amway Global, which will allow women to showcase their beauty from the inside out.
Partnering with the Miss America Organization is an incredible opportunity for us. As a leader in prestige beauty, Artistry is dedicated to helping women of all ages feel confident that they’re putting their best face forward every day. We’re excited to introduce our brand to the Miss America contestants and look forward to partnering with all of these wonderful ladies.

- CBSmoneywatch.com on Amway
-
This morning the CBS Moneywatch Website posted a great blog entry about the Amway business that I’d like to share with all of you. This is an independent reporter who chose to write a story about us. You'll like what you read. The author, Robert Pagliarini, has written a No. 1 bestseller about financial makeovers and has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and Money Magazine.
But prior to those successes, he was an Amway IBO.
Pagliarini was a group counselor with a degree in psychology when he was first introduced to the Amway business opportunity – he had no business education or experience at all. So, he studied the Amway material, read some business books, and even spoke to Jim Dornan, one of our IBO leaders, about what he should expect to learn from Amway.
While he was only with Amway for a short time, Pagliarini still uses the lessons he learned from being the CEO of his own business 15 years later. And whether you’re still with the business, have departed, or are thinking about joining, we hope some of our lessons will leave a lasting impression on you, too.
- A devastating event, and how Amway will respond
-
We’ve all been overwhelmed with shock, horror, and sadness regarding the devastating earthquake in Haiti. This morning, the Haitian Red Cross estimated that between 45,000 and 50,000 people have died in Tuesday night’s quake.
We’re exploring a number of ways to join the world community to help in this massive disaster relief effort, including opportunities for our employees and Independent Business Owners around the world to assist.
In the meantime, Amway has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross and the SOS Children’s Village to aid in the relief efforts. We have also dedicated an area on our website where IBOs and employees can donate directly to the Red Cross. This information will be posted on www.amway.com later today. Amway will match, dollar for dollar, the donations made on its site.
Amid these relief efforts, we’re also deeply concerned about the several hundred Amway Global IBOs who live and work in Haiti. Based on the extent of the impact, it’s quite likely that numerous IBOs have been affected. We are checking on every one of them as thoroughly and as quickly as possible.
We are fully committed to offering assistance quickly and meaningfully to the people of Haiti. Our IBOs and employees have always responded generously in the past when disaster strikes.
Our hearts go out to the victims.
- Skating around the Christmas tree
-
If you’re looking for a unique show to watch this Christmas, don’t miss the Amway Global Improv-Ice skating competition!
Back in November, I flew out to Phoenix for the filming of Improv-Ice (who would think that a Christmas ice show would be filmed in Arizona?) While I was there, I also got to partake in some of the filming. Figure skating great, Kristi Yamaguchi, and I shot two vignettes about the Amway One by One Campaign for Children. Kristi was a blast to work with! She was really fun-loving and had so much energy. In fact, she was dancing in between takes to the Backstreet Boys, who happened to be there rehearsing for the show.
When the vignettes air on TV during the skating competition, you’ll notice that Kristi and I were only taped from the waist up. That’s because she only brought jeans! But, I think the vignettes turned out great, and the ice skaters were magnificent. You see, Improv-Ice is an entertaining twist to standard figure skating where skating superstars are challenged to improvise a creative routine to music they’ve never heard before. There definitely was something magical about having them skate to live music!
This nationally televised special will air on Christmas Day from 3-5 p.m. EST on NBC. After the broadcast, cast your vote for the skater that you think improv-ed the best at nbcolympics.com and tune-in on January 1, 2010 from 3-5 p.m. EST to find out who wins.
Amway Global is excited to be part of this show, and we hope that it provides lots of holiday joy for all who watch!

- Amway Global's Marta named FIFA player of the year -- for a fourth time
-
When we signed Marta, the Brazilian soccer superstar and forward for the Los Angeles Sol, in July of this year we knew we were partnering with a very special person. Six months later and we couldn’t be more thrilled with our relationship.
She just capped off an incredible season of accomplishments yesterday when she was named FIFA Women’s Soccer player of the Year for a fourth year in a row. She’s won the award more times than any other soccer player.
When we chose to sponsor Marta we wanted to represent her soccer team, too. That’s why Amway Global is also the official jersey sponsor of her Women’s Professional Soccer league team, the Los Angeles Sol. So every time she makes an amazing play on the soccer field she does it wearing an Amway Global jersey. And frankly, she completely dominated the WPS all year. She won the PUMA Golden Boot Award as the league’s top scorer, she was named 2009 MVP, she was a first-team WPS All-Star selection, and she led the Los Angeles Sol to the WPS Regular Season title and a spot in the WPS Championship.
As you can probably guess, we’re incredibly proud of her! And we’re really pleased that she represents our company and our brands. We know that Marta is a perfect 10. That’s not just the number she wears on her jersey, but what she strives for as a strong, independent woman who takes pride in leading an active life and by working hard to achieve her goals.
So congratulations, Marta, on an amazing season! We can’t wait ‘til next year.

- Tune in to the TODAY Show Toy Drive
-
It’s not every day that I get be on live, National TV, but what a great opportunity! This is the third year I’ll be flying to New York to appear on the TODAY Show on behalf of Amway Global.
From what I’m told, I’ll be inside on the couch presenting our $1 million gift of products to Kathie Lee and Hoda instead of freezing outside on the plaza like the past two years. We’re donating products to the TODAY Show Toy Drive that will be given to teen and pre-teen girls because this demographic is one that tends to get overlooked during holiday giving drives. So, we’re giving them jewelry, fragrances, cosmetics and skincare products – you know, stuff that girls like!
A new element to this year’s donation revolves around the Amway Global Facebook page. I’m going to encourage everyone on-air to jump on our Facebook page, learn more about the ways we help out children all around the world through the Amway One by One Campaign for Children, and then sign-up to become a Fan of our page. For every new Fan we get between December 18 and Christmas Day, we’ll donate $1 worth of product – up to $100,000 worth – to the TODAY Show Toy Drive.
Looking at the larger picture, monetary giving is just one way we live up to our company’s vision of helping people live better lives. Since One by One began in 2003, over $70 million has been donated to children’s causes around the world. But more importantly, the time that employees and Business Owners have spent volunteering through the years is invaluable. Over 1 million volunteer hours have been clocked.
Happy Holidays,
Steve
- Expo and More!

Training, Expo, iTouches and the Simpsons – oh my!
I’ll get to the Simpsons later, but for now let me tell you about the standing-room-only training sessions and wrap-around-the-room lines for the iTouch in Expo yesterday!
Two full days have been set aside during this Achievers (Sunday and Monday for session two) for IBOs to soak up as much training as they can and to participate in the Expo. A very talented group of IBOs and corporate staff teamed up to offer the kind of practical information IBOs can take home and start using – tomorrow! Courses such as, Catch ‘em and Keep ‘em, Secrets of the Sales Plan, Why Amway?, Web 2.0 - many in Spanish, Chinese, Korean and American Sign Language as well as English – had rooms packed with people. Standing-room-only for training - there’s something to make all of us smile! A number of IBOs I spoke with were balancing training classroom sessions with interactive sessions in an Expo that included a sneak peek at “door opener” products, an unpacked New Starter Kit, and Color Me Healthy presentations with Chip Wahl. IBOs recorded their own personalized Show and Sell videos and crowded around to hear foundation matching and application tips from the Artistry team. Lines were just as long to hear enthused IBO leaders teaching from stage, consult with IBOAI staff, pose for pictures with larger than life “checks” from the 2010 GI Program and play multi-lingual versions “The IBO Game Show” on the Monster Media screens. The tech/training area where the new Apple® iPod Touches were flying out the door, was staffed by a crew of knowledgeable Amway, Apple and AT&T personnel to help IBOs learn how to operate their new iTouches, load the Amway Global “app” and navigate what is a new way of doing business for many!
IBOs traded crowded classrooms for equally full busses as we all headed to Universal Studios for the evening. Amway Global bought out the park for the evening and threw open the gates for IBOs and their families to enjoy the rides, entertainment and food. The park, always impressively lit during the evening hours, was even more so decorated for Christmas and displaying welcoming “Amway Global” and “Achievers ‘09” signs everywhere. And, the Simpsons? Only those sitting next to me on the Simpsons’ ride will know about that!

- Day Two, Session Two: a rainy start, a fantastic finish!
-
Where do you find Scott Bloom, Black Violin, Chris Gardner and nearly 2,500 Amway Global IBOs? In our opening day Business Meeting, of course! Doug DeVos, Steve Lieberman, Sandy Spielmaker and
an impressive group of corporate executives joined an elite group of IBO leaders to address the group, provide state of the business updates and have some lighthearted fun in the form of the “IBO Show”. Business tips, encouragement, humor and some impressive prize packages – trips to next spring’s Kentucky Derby, the 2010 MLS Championship and January’s Super Bowl XLIV – what’s not to enjoy? Author, motivational speaker and business executive, Chris Gardner, brought IBOs and staff to their feet repeatedly as he recounted his life’s heartaches and triumphs as he pursued his dreams of success as a man, father and entreprenuer. What an incredible sendoff into the afternoon’s LOA breakout sessions!
Gratefully, the rain and cooler weather gave way to the beginnings of sunshine as IBOs headed out to the Disney® parks for the evening, although plastic ponchos and rain drops would not have been a deterrent for the hundreds of excited children and their parents headed to the Magic Kingdom® in search of Mickey® and Minnie®!
Emerald Pins and higher finished their days with an exclusive preview of the Business Expo, including a sneak peek at the Apple® iPod Touch® all Achievers will receive and the training area where IBOs can receive instruction on downloading and using the Amway Global business “app”. Second City performers were on hand as was IBOAI, photo opportunities…well, let’s not give it all away, just yet! We want all IBOs to have a chance to discover everything the Expo offers for themselves tomorrow!
- My First Achievers - Second Session Begins!
-
Yesterday, we officially wrapped up our first session and welcomed our second round of Achievers
to Orlando. Rain showers and cooler temperatures didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of anyone – we’re off to a great start!
Achievers and their families were warmly greeted by Amway staff to a resort newly decorated for the upcoming holidays – a beautiful 50-foot poinsettia tree and carolers in the lobby, palms wrapped in holiday lights and even Santa, albeit in a Hawaiian-print shirt. IBOs emerged from registration with arms full of their new Achievers ’09 jackets and complementary XS Energy Drinks and Perfect Water and headed off to unpack, mingle and relax before regrouping for the evening’s Welcome Party.
Wind, rain, fog, temperatures in the 50s and plans for a grand outdoor celebration? Not a problem for our special events team! The entire ensemble of food prep people, servers and entertainers rose to the challenge and moved the party indoors without missing a beat! While IBOs sampled the many and varied food offerings and reconnected with old friends, a colorful entourage of dancers dressed their parts for the decade-themed party - a roller-skating couple ala the 1950s, disco and break dancers from the ‘70s and
‘80s - posed for pictures and danced with IBOs brave and talented enough to try! Live music, karaoke and games kept everyone entertained until the memorable and moving film “Pursuit of Happyness” finished the evening.
Great food, good friends and new memories…we’re definitely off to a great start!
Please return often for updates as we celebrate our Achievers and all their success and be sure to check out the Amway Global Facebook page and Achieve Magazine Flickr site for photos from first and second session!

Wow! Today is departure day; the whirlwind of my first session of my first Achievers is almost
at an end! What an experience! Amway Global IBOs are nothing short of amazing!
I'm Vicki Northridge, Director of National Sales for Amway Global, I joined the company in June of this year...thus, this is my first view of an Amway Global Achievers event, upclose and first hand.
I have to tell you, this first session's calendar of activities and events has been nothing short of phenomenal! I don't want to spoil the surprise for IBOs arriving today for the second session, but let me tell you, the next four days will not disappoint! Achievers are arriving full of excitement, energy and enthusiasm, ready to celebrate all their achievements...and we're going to help them build on that! Starting with t
onight's Welcome Party and Dinner, the second session Achievers will enjoy the chance to meet other IBO leadership, and will have ready access to corporate management, as well. We will be bringing all the Achievers together in tomorrow's Business Meeting to provide them with state of the business updates; offering new, relevant training throughout the week to help them continue to grow their business to new levels, and opening the door to exciting new tools and experiences at our business Expo. The week will not be short on fun, either! We have gathered some incredible speakers and entertainers and will cap the session with possibly the best Recognition Night yet!
So stay tuned - I'll be posting daily updates. In the meantime, I look forward to meeting each Achiever and extend a very warm welcome to Achievers 2009!

- 50th Anniversary Conclusion Video: Las Vegas Business Meeting and Founders Council Recognition
-
Yesterday in Las Vegas, this statement from Doug DeVos summed up a week's worth of 50th Anniversary Celebration Events: "It's pretty simple, right? Two guys. One idea. The Amway idea. And one vision that has carried us for 50 years."
Enjoy the video, as Steve Van Andel, Doug DeVos, Rich DeVos, and Founders Council members talk about how each day, every single one of us honors the idea that having a business of one's own changes lives, and in fact, can change the world.

- A Tribute to Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos: Highlight Video
-
This is the second video in a series featuring Amway 50th Anniversary events. It's a moving tribute to Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos, and as Doug DeVos says, "A lot of things have changed over the years... but not our unity of purpose... which is "to give people an opportunity to improve their lives with a business of their own." Enjoy!

- Talk About a Win-Win!
-
Hi! This is Cindy Droog, and I'm the managing editor of the Opportunity Zone, which means I dabble a little bit in all of the blogs, including comment moderation, blogger motivation, topic activation, and lots of other words that end in "tion." Today, I have a special treat for our Ada-Tudes readers, a guest blog post from Casey Leppanen, who handles advertising, promotions, and marketing for L.A.'s men's professional soccer team, but also works on the Street Team for the LA Sol, helping to man the Amway Global booth at all the team's home games. A big "thanks" to Casey for sharing his perspective from a game this past Sunday.
Here's Casey:
Who was the hottest last Sunday - was it Amway Global or was it the L.A. Sol? I would say it was both. With temperatures nearing 100 degrees at game-time, fans were hot; the Sol players were hot; but most importantly, so were the Street Team members working the Amway Global booth at our pre-game festivities!
All of the action took place prior to the L.A. Sol vs. FC Gold Pride match on Sunday, April 19 at The Home Depot Center. From the Amway Global booth, a steady crowd of 75-100 people were sampling products from ARTISTRY and NUTRILITE. At the prize wheel, we provided Artistry Hand Crème and make-up bags; Nutrilite Brainiums Sampler Cards and energy bars; and soccer balls, posters, shirts, and much more.
The Sol fans loved it and I would have to say that the quote of the day came from a 10-year-old girl who ate two Energy Bars and then said, “Man, give me more of some of that good stuff!”
Of course, the Amway Global booth wasn’t the only excitement that day as Sol superstar and three-time Women’s FIFA Player of the Year, Marta, dazzled the crowd with her moves and scored the game-winning goal to lead the Sol to a 1-0 win over the Pride.
I hope to see all of you at a game soon, and thank you, Amway Global, for your awesome support!

The Amway Global tent, close-up, prior to the festivities.
Me, Casey, working the Prize Wheel, and giving our fans a great experience with Amway Global's brands.
The Amway Global thundersticks are a huge hit with our younger crowds!
